Why are my activities from Strava no longer showing on the Trailforks feed?
Due to changes in Strava’s data integration policies, we are no longer able to automatically import your Strava activities into the Trailforks feed. If you have previously connected your Strava account, you will be able to see your Strava-imported data, but this data will remain private in your account. Because of Strava's changes, the following Trailforks features will be inaccessible when you sync activities from Strava to Trailforks:
- Earning badges and participating in contests
- Being ranked on trail leaderboards
- Using the Summit Tracker
- Supporting the planning and advocacy work of trail associations by providing anonymous trail usage data
- Providing public data to the Trailforks community to improve maps, calculate popular routes, and help power route finder, activities layers, and heatmap features
- Providing last ridden trail status data to trail associations
- Sharing activities with your feed followers
- Accessing your shareable year in review
- Contributing to future Trailforks feature improvements
We recognize that this change impacts our Trailforks community significantly, from our members to trail associations. To retain the full experience of Trailforks as a community-building platform, we encourage you to record rides directly in the Trailforks app or connect a device (such as a Garmin watch) to your Trailforks account. At this time, only Strava data within Trailforks is impacted by the changes. We remain committed to being an open platform that connects, aggregates, and shares your full active lifestyle.
How can I record my rides and activities using the Trailforks app?
You can record your activities in the Trailforks app using the built-in recording feature—tap the yellow arrow at the top of the app to get started. Recording your activity directly in the Trailforks app has a number of benefits:
- Easier navigation: When you record directly in the Trailforks app, you’re able to more accurately view where you are on the trail map.
- Traildar: This unique feature sends you alerts as you approach custom waypoints.
- Location sharing: Sharing your location is available only when you record a ride directly in the Trailforks app.
- Contributing to the Trailforks community: Help support the planning and advocacy work of trail associations, plus improve maps and power useful features through public data.
You can also sync your rides directly from hundreds of apps and devices to your Trailforks account through the Device Connection Hub, found in your Trailforks account settings.
How can I share my rides and activities in Trailforks?
You will still be able to share your rides and activities in Trailforks by:
A. Using Trailforks’ built-in recording feature for direct posting.
B. Reconnecting your tracking devices or platforms utilizing the Device Connection Hub in your Trailforks account settings.
Why should I share my activities and rides with the Trailforks community?
When you provide information on your ride, you help contribute to anonymous trail usage data for trail association planning and advocacy. Your anonymous data also assists us in improving maps, calculating popular routes, and powering the route finder, activities layers, and heatmap features. We encourage you to continue sharing your rides and activities with the greater Trailforks community by recording your rides right in the app or by connecting your device.
Your ride information, including how often you ride a trail, trail conditions, and the popularity of the trail, help trail associations and trail advocacy groups better understand trail usage and the demographics of riders in the community. With this information, trail associations and organizations can go to city councils and gain funding for trail management.
It’s important to track your ride or activity. When you use a trail, you vote for it, and by providing important trail data to groups that manage and protect these trails, you can prove that mountain bikers, runners, hikers, and those that use these trails are a valuable part of a community.
Am I still able to connect my Strava account to Trailforks?
You will still be able to connect your Strava account to Trailforks; however, any data imported from recorded activities in Strava will not be publicly viewable or shareable on Trailforks. At this time, only Strava data within Trailforks is impacted by the changes.
Your Strava data will remain private within your Trailforks account in the following capacity:
- Log of activities
- Viewing your own activities
- Viewing your own ridelog stats
- Personal best times on trail leaderboards*
- Service tracker usage for service intervals
- Year in review for personal viewing only
*Note: Your data will not show publicly on trail leaderboards; if you wish to show your times and statistics publicly, we encourage you to record directly within the Trailforks app or connect your device.
We recognize that this impacts our Trailforks community significantly, from our members to trail associations. To retain the full experience of Trailforks as a community-building platform, we encourage our users to record rides directly in the Trailforks app or connect a device (such as a Garmin watch) to your Trailforks account.
How does this impact historical data imported from Strava to my Trailforks account?
Your Strava-imported data will remain in your Trailforks account but will be viewable only to you. You will not have the ability to share any of the activities recorded by Strava publicly on the Trailforks feed or have your data displayed on trail leaderboards. Additionally, any Strava-imported data will not contribute to contests or badges.
For the best Trailforks experience, we recommend that you record your activities directly in the Trailforks app or connect your device to import your activities to your account.
