The Route Planner tool allows you to look at trails you wish to ride in a day or plan a ride in advance. It's also a great tool to use if you are creating a route for a race. You can create a route, save the route to your wishlist, and share the URL of the route with friends.
Here's how to use the route planner:
The routing method allows you to click between two points. Hovering over a trail will give you an instant preview of the route, and you can click on the blue points on the map to add a trail to your route.
If you wish to draw a route, instead of using the snap-to-route functionality, click and drag with your mouse to free-hand a drawing.
You can hold the 'z' key to disable the snap-to-route function.
The 'alt' key allows you to draw a straight line between points.
The auto-routing functionality of the route planner tool respects the direction of a trail. For instance, you cannot choose to route 'up' a downhill trail. You do have the ability to disable this functionality on the right-hand side showcasing the details page.
If there is a trail on the map that is missing a connection on the trail database, you can free-hand draw to connect the trails.
Press 'Delete' on the keyboard to remove individual points on the route.
You can also 'Edit Points' on the right-hand details side to fine-tune the route.
Press 'escape' to enter map mode, allowing you to interact on the map without a route being created.
The right-hand details bar will show various details about the route, including elevation data. Additionally, the side profile will give you a breakdown of all the trails on the route, and you can see the surface types along the route. You can further customize your route by adding points of interest. You can edit points along the route and add your own custom lines, as well as sections, which are particularly useful for race stages.
After you have created your route, hit 'Save.' Your route will become available in the Trailforks app under My Wishlist, and you can also share the URL of the route with your friends.
Note: the functionalities shown in the video may differ slightly from the UX offered in the app and website today. Trailforks has undergone a number of release updates, and if you have kept your Trailforks app up-to-date, you should see a more updated version of many of these functions shown in the video. We have kept the video up on our help center as it still serves to show users the many features that Trailforks offers!
