On the trail's detail page, or on the main region map, you can hover over trails and trace the elevation of the trail. If you want to see where a steep climb starts on a trail, you'll be able to tell with this hover feature!
In the region's trails, you can hover over a trail to see the trail's details, as well as important information about the trail.
If the trail has shows X's across the trail, the trail is bi-directional. If the trail shows arrows only one way, then the trail is a one-directional trail only. If the trail is a climbing trail, then there will be little arrows all along the trail's length.
Filter by Trail Flow (Ridden Direction)
You can see the trail flow for a region on the trailforks.com basemap by selecting the Trail Style dropdown > Trail Flow.
Trailforks will scan ridelogs from users to determine the most popular direction each trail is ridden. A good flowing trail network will have most trails flowing in a single direction according to their intension.
The color categories are based on what percentage of riders are riding a trail in its intended direction.

You can also see the direction of trails on the trailforks.com basemap by selecting the Trail Style dropdown > Direction. The trails will change to the color associated with the type of trail:
