Trailforks Map on Web
The main map on trailforks.com is very customizable, and you can view a number of different features, layers, and points of interest depending on the filters you choose on the map. On the region that you're interested in, you can see the trail list on the right-hand side (D), depending on the activity type (A) you've chosen.
When you're hovering over a trail, the trail will be highlighted in yellow, and the entire route of the trail will be shown. You'll be able to see the trail name and the start and end of the trail.
If you click on the trail, a small pop-up box will appear with more detailed information, such as the elevation and distance of the trail.
The right-side of the map will show as list of all the trails (D). As you scroll over the trail, it will highlight the trail on the map.
You can change the background layers on the map by clicking on the drop-down basemap layer (C). Here, you can change the kind of basemap (C) that the trails are on, and you can change from a 2D to a 3D map by toggling the 3D/2D icon (E) on the lower right-hand corner of the screen.
You can see the trail markers, labels, photos, points of interest, and places by clicking on layers. And you can further filter the level of difficulty of the trails, for wet weather conditions, or the direction of the trail under 'Filter' (B).
You can further zoom out and see more trails near to the region you're interested in, and as you scroll further, you can see Red Legion markers where other trail regions exist. If you zoom out far enough, the trail list on the right-hand side will change to a list of regions.
The video below shows a number of features on the map that exist in today's current app. The user experience on the map is different in this video than on the current map, but many of the same features still exist and are upgraded. The 2D to 3D feature is now available on more basemap layers than just the Google Satellite layer, and you may be pleased to find that there a number of basemap layers available today that weren't available even a few years ago.
We are continuously making improvements to the Trailforks map, and we thank you for your patience as we work to innovate and strengthen the resources and data in our app and website.
Note: the functionalities shown in the video differ from the UX offered in the app and Trailforks website today. Both have undergone a number of release updates, and if you have kept your Trailforks app up-to-date, you should see a more updated version of many of these functions shown. We have kept the video up on our help center as it still serves to show users the many features that Trailforks offers!
