How do you get the most out of the Trailforks app?
Discover the regions, routes, and recommended trails near to you! You can filter the trails by list view or map view. You can also filter the trail by difficulty or popularity, as well as seeing trail reviews.
Recording the ride will track your distance and allow you to save your rides to your account. Recording the ride also provides valuable information to trail associations on how often the trail is being used.
You can report the condition of the trail by hitting the '+' button on the reports tab. You can add a description, photos, and associate the report with the exact point that you're on in the trail.
Basics of the Trailforks Map
After downloading the Trailforks app on your iOS or Android device, you can center yourself on the map by clicking on the 'target' icon above the '3D' icon.
You can scroll in and out of the map to see trails near to you, or you can also search for trails near to you by clicking on the 'Magnifying Glass' icon on the right-hand side.
Clicking on a trail will bring you to that area on the map, and you can scroll along the profile of the trail to see what part of the trail you're on. This is helpful if you're looking at trails with climbs and you're trying to figure out what part of the trail you're on!
Trail Information
You have the ability to swipe up on a trail for more information about the trail.
Scrolling up provides you:
- User ratings
- Distance
- Climbing Distance
- Descent
- Average time to ride the trail
- Location on the map
- Directions to get to the trail (this will open up Google Maps, which should route you to the nearest parking lot on the mountain by the trail you want to ride)
- Access info
- Trail type
- Popularity
You also have the option of:
- Adding the trail to a wishlist
- Checking that you've ridden the trail
- Leaving a comment on the trail
- Providing support to the region through Trail Karma
Checking Trail Reports:
If you toggle to the next tab on the bottom of the screen, you can check the trail reports for a trail. You can leave your own trail report by clicking on the yellow '+' sign button on the right-hand side.
Additionally, you can see photos and videos of the trail in the next two tabs.
Call for Help
Importantly, on the side-bar, you will see a red 'Emergency Info' button. Tapping on this button will provide you your current location (lat/long), and you can call 911 directly from your phone using this function.
Note: the functionalities shown in the video below differ slightly from the UX offered in the app today. The app has undergone a number of release updates, and if you have kept your Trailforks app up-to-date, you should see a more updated version of many of these functions shown in the video. We have kept the video up on our help center as it still serves to show users the many features that Trailforks offers!
The bike-shop feature is no longer available, but you can still search for local bike shops, clubs, and riding associations via Pinkbike or by tapping the 'Discover' button in the area you wish you ride in.
