There are multiple ways of hiding and/or restricting access to trails and regions on trailforks.com:
Hide a Region/Mark a Region as Unsanctioned
To hide an entire area or network, go to the region page on trailforks.com, and click on the 'Add/Edit' dropdown menu on the right-hand side:
1. Under the Misc. section, you can select 'Hidden' or 'Unsanctioned' for the region.
2. Hit 'Submit.'
3. If you are a user, your revision request will be reviewed before being approved.
Note: If you have checked both 'Hidden' and 'Unsanctioned' for the region, the region itself will be hidden from users, but the trails will still be visible. In order for trails to be completely hidden, each trail will need to be hidden.
Once you've checked 'Hidden' on region's edit page, the region will be hidden from users on the site; as an administrator, you'll still be able to see the region.
Hide a Trail/Marking a Trail as Unsanctioned
If you wish to hide a trail, go to the trail page, and click on the Add/Edit dropdown menu:
1. Under the Misc. section, you can select 'Hidden' or 'Unsanctioned' for the trail.
You also have a number of options to select for the trail, including marking the trail as 'Permanently Closed/Decommissioned.'
Closing' or decommissioning a trail means that the trail no longer exists or is permanently closed. Selecting this status will change the trail's status to Closed, and the trail will be changed to a dotted line on the trail map.
2. Hit 'Submit.'
3. If you are a user, your revision request will be reviewed before being approved.
Marking a Region/Trail as 'Unsanctioned' vs. 'Hidden'
Unsanctioned Trails
If you mark a trail as unsanctioned alone, the trail will have a red warning label letting users know that the trail is 'unsanctioned.'
Additionally, marking a trail as unsanctioned will untag those trails from the trail association. Checking a trail as 'unsanctioned' does not hide the trail from users.
Hiding Regions
Hiding regions will hide the region from all users; however, administrators will still be able to see a hidden region.
When hiding a trail, you have two options:
A. Hide GPS/Location information: the trail page itself will still be visible, and users will able to see the graph of the trail elevation and the trail page. However, users will no longer be able to see the trail on the map. Administrators will be able to see the trail on the map as a dotted line.
B. Hide all trail information: the trail will be completely hidden to all users except administrators. The trail will appear to administrators as a dotted line on the map. Ride-logs that take place with those trails are automatically hidden and cannot be made public. Region admins are still able to view user stats on these trails.
Note: the functionalities shown in these videos may differ slightly from the UX offered in the app and website today. Trailforks has undergone a number of release updates, and if you have kept your Trailforks app up-to-date, you should see a more updated version of many of these functions shown in the video. We have kept the video up on our help center as it still serves to show users the many features that Trailforks offers!
