Since we want Trailforks to be a community-based app, anyone using Trailforks can add or edit content on the Trailforks database.
Add a Trail
There are three ways to add a trail from trailforks.com:
A. You can go to the 'More' dropdown, and then go to 'Contribute.' From the 'Contribute' page, you can then go to the Trail option on that page. If you choose this route, you will have to populate the location information for the trail.
B. You can also go to the 'Trail' dropdown, and click on 'Add Trail.' This option will take you straight to the 'Add Trail' page. If you choose this route, you will have to populate the location information for the trail.
C. You can additionally go to a region where you wish to add a trail. Under 'Add/Edit,' you can choose 'Add Trail.' If you choose to add a trail this way, the location information will be automatically populated to the region you navigated to.
Once you've selected the way you'd like to add a trail, click on 'Upload file.'
Select your file. This will import the GPS file as a purple line on the map.
Editing tools for the trail line:
You can edit the individual GPS points:
A. To move the individual GPS point, left click your mouse and hold while moving the point around.
B. To delete a point, left click on the point you wish to remove.
C. To add a point, left click on one of the opaque points.
You can also choose to reverse the direction of the trail and crop the trail as needed.
Requirements for trail submission
In order to submit a trail, the following details must be filled out:
1. Activity types the trail supports
2. Location information
3. Trail name
4. Difficulty rating
5. Trail surface type
Complete Trail Submission
Fill out as many details as you can on the trail contribution page, and then hit 'Submit.'
If you are submitting content as a user, the content will need to be approved by an admin. After submission, an admin will look through your content and will either approve or suggest amendments.
Note: the functionalities shown in the video may differ slightly from the UX offered in the app and website today. Trailforks has undergone a number of release updates, and if you have kept your Trailforks app up-to-date, you should see a more updated version of many of these functions shown in the video. We have kept the video up on our help center as it still serves to show users the many features that Trailforks offers!
If the region you want to add the trail to is missing, please see this article.
