Trailforks supports adding winter and snow seasonal trails. Because winter trails typically only exist during the winter season, or they overlap summer trails or use terrain only accessible in the winter, these trails are NOT shown on the normal/default map.
Regions that contain winter trails will have a 'winter trails layer option' on the map. This option will toggle to show the winter map for the region. The winter map only shows trails designated as winter only or winter & summer.
- A winter-only trail only is displayed on the winter map.
- A winter & summer trail is shown on both the normal map and the winter map.
- An unspecified trail only shows on the normal map.
How to View, Add, or Edit Winter Trails
Note: the functionalities shown in the video may differ slightly from the UX offered in the app and website today. Trailforks has undergone a number of release updates, and if you have kept your Trailforks app up-to-date, you should see a more updated version of many of these functions shown in the video. We have kept the video up on our help center as it still serves to show users the many features that Trailforks offers!
View Winter Trails
By default, your view of the map will show summer trails.
In order to view winter trails:
1. Go to the Layers dropdown for a region.
2. Click on the Winter Trails checkbox.
3. Here, you'll be able to view trails that exist in both the winter & summer, or you can also view trails that only exist in the winter.
Add/Edit Winter Trails
If you want to add or edit a trail to designate that the trail can be used in both the winter & summer or the winter only:
1. Click on the trail.
2. On the trail's detail page, go to 'Add/Edit.'
3. On the edit page, you can designate a winter activity pertaining to the trail, or you can also just add the trail to the winter trail map by clicking on the right-hand side dropdown under Winter Trail Map.
4. Options under that drop-down are 'Winter Only' or 'Winter & Summer' - you can also add a range of months that the trail is rideable in under 'Season.'
5. Hit Submit.
The trail will then appear on the winter trail layer (and will appear on the summer, or default, map if you have selected the dropdown for both 'Winter & Summer').
View Winter Trails in Mobile App

4. When the winter trail map is enabled, you will see the snowflake icon showcased in green.
