To share your live location with a group (or groups), you can do so via the following options within the Trailforks app:
A. Recording an activity
When recording an activity, you can select ‘Share Live Location’ > Share location with group or Share link to location.
‘Share location with group’ allows for you to Select a group or multiple groups to share your location with. You can change these sharing settings at any point while recording your activity.
Note: 'Share link to location' creates a link that you can share externally, but it does not share your location automatically with any groups. To share your location with groups, select the ‘Share location with groups’ option.
B. Profile > Groups
You can select a group you wish to start sharing with from your Profile > Groups tab. Tapping on the group provides you the ability to start sharing directly with that group. Tapping ‘Start Sharing’ will START a recording. You will need to navigate to the main map screen > tap on the recording button to manage your live location sharing.
Note: You cannot share to multiple groups if you choose to start sharing your live location via the group details on the Profile screen.
Reminder: Stopping your recording also stops your live location sharing. If you wish to make any changes to your live location sharing, try pausing your recording to make changes before resuming your recording. You can also stop your live location sharing by going to ‘Stop Sharing’ when recording your activity.
Set-up a Safety Alert
When recording an activity and sharing your live location, you have the option to set-up a safety alert for your Emergency Contacts and members of the groups you are sharing with.
Enabling Safety Alerts:
There are two important settings that enable this feature to work correctly:
- Under your main settings menu > Pro Features , ensure that you have the setting ‘Safety Alert’’ toggled on.
- When you have this setting (and your auto-share feature) toggled on, you’ll receive a pop-up when you start recording an activity that asks if you’d like to send an alert to your Emergency Contacts and shared group members so they get notified if you’re gone for too long.
- You’ll have the option of setting a time-frame for your safety alert.
- If you do not stop your activity after the time-frame that you set, your Emergency Contacts and shared group members will receive an email 5 minutes after the safety alert time-frame has elapsed.
- If you do not set-up an alert from the pop-up, you’ll also have the option to set-up the safety alert when going to record activity > share your live location > manage groups.
To edit the Safety Alert, you can tap on the ‘Safety Alert’ badge when sharing your live location.
Note: The safety alert time-frame starts from the time you started recording your activity. You cannot set-up a safety alert for a shorter time period than you have currently been recording.
Example: if you are currently recording an activity and your recording is at 1 hr and 32 minutes, you can’t set-up a safety alert for 1 hour. You can set-up a safety alert for 2 hours, and your Emergency Contacts and shared group members will receive a location sharing alert email at the 2 hour mark of your current recording.
Send an ‘All-Good’ Message
As a Trailforks Pro user, you have the ability to send your Emergency Contacts a message letting them know that you’ve finished your activity and made it back safely.
Enable sending an ‘All Good’ message:
There are two important settings that enable this feature to work correctly:
- Under your main settings menu > Pro Features , ensure that you have the setting ‘Send All Good Message’’ toggled on.
- When you have this setting on and have shared your live location with your Emergency Contacts, you’ll receive a pop-up after you’ve finished your activity that asks if you’d like to send an alert to your Emergency Contacts and shared group members so they get notified if you’re gone for too long.
- You will receive the ‘All Good’ pop-up after you either ‘Save’ or ‘Delete’ your activity.
- You can choose to customize your message or select the pre-filled text in the message and hit ‘Send Message.’
- There is a timer for sending the ‘All-Good’ message. If you wish to send a message, tap into the text box to stop the timer and craft your message. You can also choose to ‘x’ out of the pop-up or disable the feature entirely.
Note: If you do not have text in your message, your Emergency Contacts will not receive an email letting them know you’ve finished your activity. The email is triggered to your Emergency Contacts if there is text in the message box.
Share your Route while Live Location Sharing
As a Trailforks Pro user, you can also share your route while live location sharing. To enable this feature, select a route before you start recording your activity and hitting 'Share Live Location' > Manage Groups.
If you do not have a route selected before you start recording your activity and sharing your live location, you can still choose a route to load on your map. Any viewers of your activity will be able to see your route after you have accumulated 10 GPS points.
