We are excited to offer access to Trailforks features via Satellite connection as part of T-Mobile’s Satellite-to-mobile service. To read more about T-Mobile’s Satellite service, including eligible devices and plans, please visit the T-Satellite Support page here.
Note: Satellite connectivity is optimized for the Trailforks app on iOS build version 2025.5.8 and Android build version 2025.11.0.
How does T-Satellite connectivity work with the Trailforks app?
When you connect to T-Satellite coverage, you’ll be able to load features that are typically unavailable outside of cell range. You can view notifications, write and upload trail reports, read and send messages to other users, and record/upload an activity while out of cell. You can pull up non-downloaded trail and region details within the Trailforks app via the web page functionality.
Note: satellite data connections can be significantly slower while performing certain actions with the Trailforks app. Trailforks was built to work well Offline. We therefore encourage you to log-in to the app, download regions, and offline maps on a Wi-Fi or cellular connection before going out for your adventure out of cell signal.
Will my device work with the new T-Satellite feature?
To use satellite connectivity, you will need to first be enrolled in an eligible T-Mobile plan and have an eligible device. For more information on what devices and plans are eligible for the service, see this article.
Do I need to turn anything on in the Trailforks App for satellite service?
When you are connected to satellite coverage, you’ll receive a notification when opening up the Trailforks app that asks if you’d like to ‘Allow Trailforks to access cellular data using the satellite network provided by your carrier.’
If you tap, ‘Allow,’ you will now be connected to Satellite coverage.
Note for iOS users: Please ensure you’re on the latest version of the Trailforks App and have upgraded to the latest version of iOS 26 on iPhone.
Does the Trailforks app operate similarly on satellite as it does on Wi-Fi or cell service?
Satellite data connections are slower than Wi-Fi or cellular connections. We strongly encourage you to download regions and offline maps on a Wi-Fi or cellular connection before going out for your adventure out of cell signal.
You can perform the majority of Trailforks functions on a Satellite connection, but please note that satellite data connections can be significantly slower while performing certain actions with the Trailforks app, such as sending and receiving messages, loading the community feed, searching for non-downloaded trails and regions, and using the Discover feature.
We do provide the option to switch to a lightweight basemap for faster basemap loading while on a satellite connection. You can select that option when pulling up the Trailforks app on a satellite connection.
Can I use T-Satellite with Trailforks if I’m not a T-Mobile customer?
T-Mobile offers a special plan for users that don’t have a T-Mobile plan. If you have a compatible unlocked device, you can add a monthly T-Satellite service (and an eSIM card) and take advantage of satellite connectivity. Read more about that option here.
